ABOUT US
El Monte (short for Monte de Oración) is a Christian wellness center located in Atenas, at the western end of Costa Rica’s Central Valley. It is an ideal place for missionary visits, spiritual retreats, and personal encounters with God.
Our vision is to become a space of continuous prayer 24/7, a place dedicated to intercession and holistic healing: physical, spiritual, and mental. Amid the natural beauty that surrounds us, we seek to awaken each visitor to God’s love so that they may be transformed by His presence, whether they come in search of a spiritual encounter or not.
El Monte is also projected to be a center for retreats, youth camps, and other Christian events. In the future, it will be the headquarters of Enlace, the largest Spanish-language Christian television network, currently located in Pavas, San José.
FACILITIES
El Monte de Oración offers a wide variety of accommodation options, ideal for group visits wishing to organize spiritual retreats or camping trips for up to 35 people. Subject to availability, individual accommodations can also be rented for those seeking relaxation surrounded by nature.
We currently have:
- 10 private cabins, each fully equipped with a kitchen, dining room, living room with a sofa bed, a full bathroom, and a master bedroom. All cabins have a private terrace from which you can enjoy stunning views of the Central Valley.
- Casa Vainilla, located near the main entrance and common areas, is equipped with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a spacious kitchen, dining room, living room, and laundry area.
- Casa del Lago, located in a more secluded area, perfect for a quiet stay, has 2 bedrooms and is fully equipped for a comfortable and cozy experience.
- Bunkhouse, a poolside bunkhouse is ideal for groups and accommodates multiple guests in 4 bunk beds, as well as 2 full bathrooms.
Among the common facilities, visitors can enjoy:
- An open-air hall for events and meetings of up to 250 people, as well as a smaller indoor facility that seats 50.
- A semi-Olympic-sized pool, perfect for leisure and recreation.
- Nature trails ideal for hiking, exploration, and moments of reflection.
- A prayer chapel which seats 50, ideal for some time of personal communion, as well as for weddings, wedding pictures and soon for baptisms.
The beauty of the natural surroundings and the spectacular views create an incomparable atmosphere, ensuring that every visit to Monte de Oración is a truly unforgettable experience.

MASTER PLAN
Developed by architect Sergio Frugone of VOID, the Master Plan is a statement of faith for the vision of Prayer Mountain. By staying, you can help provide the funds to develop this project and create a spiritual oasis that will benefit generations to come. The plan is divided into 4 main regions: a commercial/retail side closest to the main entrance, an arts and culture section that will be the home of Enlace, a residential and hospitality segment, and the more spiritual areas that will house 24/7. Prayer tower, chapel and campsites. The main concept behind this schematic design is that non-Christians can be attracted to the commercial and wellness aspects of the project, and then slowly introduced to the Gospel and God’s plan for their lives.
